Orthographic Projection Cube
Location
Hanover College
Date
April 2021
The idea for this project came from my Engineering Design class. The goal was to reach out to our former STEM teachers in either high school or middle school and ask what specific topic their students need extra help with. We were to create something that would help better teach that topic.
Orthographic projection was the chosen topic for my project. It is a method of projection in which an object is depicted to project its shape onto a plane. I created a plexiglass cube with one hinged side to act as a door. 3D printed shapes are attached to the wooden peg on the hinged side. Once the door is closed and magnetically locked, a student can flip the box to any side and trace the shape repeatedly. This tactile action would allow students to more easily comprehend this concept.
